Politicians should not earn huge amounts of money . Actually I think they should earn the median wage of the population! (Watch it! Median does not equals average for a reason here!) First of all the vultures of today wouldn't be interested in politics anymore because there is no more money and the 'real' politicians would come, those that care about the people and the governing rather than about their own pockets. Secondly will they earn more money when the wealth would be more equally divided among the people since they earn the median. Though I strongly suggest this system would make it possible for a politician to still do his job. These people would function better if they have more time to think and act. So, some service would be appropriate nonetheless. Such as a driver, office facilities, ... ONe must be carefull though not to let this attract the vultures again.
